Epidemic of infectious laryngotracheitis in Italy: characterization of virus isolates by PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism and sequence analysis.

Ana Moreno, Alessandra Piccirillo, Alessandra Mondin, Emilio Morandini, Luigi Gavazzi, Paolo Cordioli,

Between May 2007 and October 2008, 34 outbreaks of mild to moderate forms of infectious laryngotracheitis (ILT) occurred in commercial broiler flocks in Italy. Affected birds showed watery eyes, conjunctivitis, nasal discharge, reduction of feed and water consumption, and gasping with expectoration of blood-stained mucus. The mortality rate was < ... Intervention strategies for laryngotracheitis: impact of extended downtime and enhanced biosecurity auditing.

Chin, García, Corsiglia, Riblet, Crespo, Shivaprasad, Rodríguez-Avila, Woolcock, França,

An outbreak of vaccinal infectious laryngotracheitis (LT) began in 2005 involving 57 ranches of two broiler companies in California. Standard biosecurity, and cleaning and disinfection programs along with vaccination, did not stop the outbreak. Due to the close proximity and number of birds in the same geographic area, the decision ... Read more >>

In vivo events of retroviral long terminal repeat integration into Marek's disease virus in commercial poultry: detection of chimeric molecules as a marker.

Davidson, Borenshtain,

The present study demonstrated, for the first time, that not only in vitro, but also in vivo, coinfections with Marek's disease virus (MDV) and each of the three avian retroviruses (reticuloendotheliosis virus [REV], avian lymphoid leukosis virus [ALV], and ALV-J) lead to retroviral long terminal repeat (LTR) integration into MDV. ... Avian paramyxovirus type 1 from pigeons: isolate characterization and pathogenicity after chicken or embryo passage of selected isolates.

King,

Nine pigeon paramyxovirus type 1 isolates from the United States and Canada were characterized and three of the isolates were pathotyped before and after passage in chickens and serial passage in chicken embryos. One isolate previously passaged in Madin Darby bovine kidney cells was also pathotyped after chicken and embryo ... Read more >>
