Unusual pattern of inferior vena cava thrombosis after veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation: a report of two cases

Marin Pavlov, Zdravko Babić, Nikola Bulj, Tomislav Krčmar,

We report two cases of inferior vena cava (IVC) thrombosis after the retrieval of veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation cannulas. In both patients, the venous cannula tips were placed in the upper half of the right atrium, enabling adequate blood drainage. During support, uneventful periods of IVC collapse were detected. After ... Read more >>

Impact of intracoronary contrast injection pressure on reperfusion during primary percutaneous coronary intervention in acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction: A prospective randomized pilot study.

Kresimir Stambuk, Tomislav Krcmar, Ivan Zeljkovic,

<h4>Background</h4>Distal embolization of plaque and thrombotic debris in the infarct-related artery (IRA) may lead to microvascular obstruction resulting in impaired myocardial reperfusion. The aim of the study was to assess the impact of contrast injection pressure in IRA, during primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), on myocardial reperfusion in patients with acute ... Nikola Kos, Vjekoslav Radeljić, Nikola Pavlović, Krešimir Kordić, Kristijan Đula, Nikola Bulj, Tomislav Krčmar, Diana Delić Brkljačić, Ivan Zeljković, Šime Manola,

<h4>Background</h4>Spontaneous recanalization of a chronically occluded artery is rare and reported anecdotally.<h4>Case summary</h4>We report a case of a patient with a chronically occluded right coronary artery, found on a coronary angiography performed due to acute ST elevation myocardial infarction with an occluded circumflex artery as a culprit lesion. Three months ... Read more >>

Nutritional Considerations of Cardiovascular Diseases and Treatments.

Marko Boban, Nikola Bulj, Matea Kolačević Zeljković, Vjekoslav Radeljić, Tomislav Krcmar, Matias Trbusic, Diana Delić-Brkljačić, Tamara Alebic, Aleksandar Vcev,

Nutritional considerations of many chronic diseases are not fully understood or taken into consideration in everyday clinical practice. Therefore, it is not surprising that high proportion of hospitalized patients with cardiovascular diseases remains underdiagnosed with malnutrition. Malnourished patients have increased risk of poor clinical outcomes, complications rate, prolonged hospital stay, ... Read more >>

C-reactive protein, renal function, and cardiovascular outcome in patients with symptomatic peripheral artery disease and preserved left ventricular systolic function.

Mislav Vrsalović, Ksenija Vučur, Boris Car, Tomislav Krčmar, Ana Vrsalović Presečki,

AIM:To investigate the prognostic role of C-reactive protein (CRP) and renal function for the occurrence of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) in patients with symptomatic peripheral artery disease (PAD) and preserved left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF). METHODS:The occurrence of MACE, defined as composite endpoint of acute myocardial infarction, urgent coronary ... Read more >>

The association of ventricular tachycardia and endothelial dysfunction in the setting of acute myocardial infarction with ST elevation.

Vedrana Škerk, Alemka Markotić, Diana Delić Brkljačić, Sime Manola, Tomislav Krčmar, Ivo Darko Gabrić, Gordana Stajminger, Hrvoje Pintarić,

<h4>Background</h4>Ventricular tachycardia (VT) is frequently seen in ischemic settings like acute myocardial infarction with ST segment elevation (STEMI). Endothelial dysfunction (ED) represents inflammation and the loss of all protective features of the endothelium. We aimed to examine the association between VT and ED in patients with STEMI.<h4>Material/methods</h4>The study included 90 ... Read more >>

Successful management of the superior mesenteric artery occlusion in 86-year-old female: case report.

Marko Boban, Boris Car, Sasa Schmidt, Tomislav Krpan, Tomislav Krcmar, Diana Delić-Brkljacić, Petar Brkić, Milan Vukelić,

Chronic superior mesentery ischemia often presents a clinically asymptomatic diffuse atherosclerotic process. There are no compelling recommendations on the benefits of early revascularization strategy besides antithrombotic prophylaxis and statin treatment. Conversely, long-term prevalence of symptomatic cases in surgical patient cohorts is rarely reported in the literature. Acutization of chronic ischemia ... Read more >>

Repetitive stent fractures with diffuse coronary artery microaneurysm formation--sirolimus eluting stent hypersensitivity?

Nikola Pavlović, Kresimir Stambuk, Ivo Darko Gabrić, Matias Trbusić, Tomislav Krcmar, Sime Manola, Hrvoje Pintarić, Vjekoslav Radeljić, Diana Delić-Brkljacić, Ozren Vinter,

While drug eluting stents (DES) are being more widely used in ever more patients receiving DES each day, some new complications may be emerging. Stent fractures and hypersensitivity reactions to stents are among recognized complications that can lead to therapeutic dead end from the interventional cardiologist's point of view. We ... Wellens' syndrome in a female patient presenting to emergency room after resolving exercise-induced chest pain.

Kresimir Stambuk, Nikola Pavlović, Sime Manola, Tomislav Krcmar, Hrvoje Pintarić, Diana Delić-Brkljacić,

Wellens' syndrome, also known as the left anterior descending (LAD) coronary T wave syndrome, is a potentially under-recognized syndrome in emergency room, which can have potentially fatal consequences. It usually consists of typical electrocardiography (ECG) finding in precordial leads that represents significant stenosis of the proximal LAD. Although the syndrome ... Read more >>
