Improved blind tracheal intubation in rats: a simple and secure approach.

Jing Zheng, Zixi Xiao, Ke Zhang, Xue Qiu, Liying Luo, Lang Li,

Successful tracheal intubation is the prerequisite for open-chest models. Tracheal intubation in small animal such as the rat is often challenging due to the small size and special anatomy. We investigated whether endotracheal intubation can be performed safely and reliably in rats employing only gesture fixation and a catheter. Rats ... Read more >>

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is the largest non-genetic, non-aging related risk factor for Alzheimer's disease (AD). We report here that TBI induces tau acetylation (ac-tau) at sites acetylated also in human AD brain. This is mediated by S-nitrosylated-GAPDH, which simultaneously inactivates Sirtuin1 deacetylase and activates p300/CBP acetyltransferase, increasing neuronal ac-tau. ... Read more >>

Local vibration induced vascular pathological structural changes and abnormal levels of vascular damage indicators.

Nuoyan Wei, Rong Yan, Li Lang, Yuan Wei, Jiajie Li, Hongyu Yang, Shan Wu, Paul-Émile Boileau, Maosheng Yan, Qingsong Chen,

Background
The vascular component of the hand-arm-vibration syndrome (HAVs) is often characterized by vibration-induced white fingers (VWF). Active substances secreted by the vascular endothelial cells (VEC) maintain a dynamic balance but damage to the blood vessels may occur when the equilibrium is altered, thus forming an important pathological basis for VWF. ... Proton pump inhibitors suppress DNA damage repair and sensitize treatment resistance in breast cancer by targeting fatty acid synthase.

Chao J Wang, Deren Li, Jacob A Danielson, Evan H Zhang, Zizheng Dong, Kathy D Miller, Lang Li, Jian-Ting Zhang, Jing-Yuan Liu,

Human fatty acid synthase (FASN) is the sole cytosolic enzyme responsible for de novo lipid synthesis. FASN is essential for cancer cell survival and contributes to drug and radiation resistance by up-regulating DNA damage repair but not required for most non-lipogenic tissues. Thus, FASN is an attractive target for drug ... Read more >>

Prognostic lncRNAs, miRNAs, and mRNAs Form a Competing Endogenous RNA Network in CESC

Lang Li, Qiusheng Guo, Gaochen Lan, Fei Liu, Wenwu Wang, Xianmei Lv,

Background:
Cervical squamous cell carcinoma and endocervical adenocarcinoma (CESC) tumorigenesis involves a combination of multiple genetic alteration processes. Constructing a survival-associated competing endogenous RNA (ceRNA) network and a multi-mRNA-based prognostic signature model can help us better understand the complexity and genetic characteristics of CESC.
Methods:
The RNA-seq data ... Multimodal single-cell/nucleus RNA sequencing data analysis uncovers molecular networks between disease-associated microglia and astrocytes with implications for drug repurposing in Alzheimer's disease.

Jielin Xu, Pengyue Zhang, Yin Huang, Yadi Zhou, Yuan Hou, Lynn Bekris, Justin Lathia, Chien-Wei Chiang, Lang Li, Andrew Pieper, James Leverenz, Jeffrey Cummings, Feixiong Cheng,

Because disease-associated microglia (DAM) and disease-associated astrocytes (DAA) are involved in the pathophysiology of Alzheimer's disease (AD), we systematically identified molecular networks between DAM and DAA in order to uncover novel therapeutic targets for AD. Specifically, we develop a network-based methodology that leverages single-cell/nucleus RNA sequencing data from both transgenic ... Read more >>

Learning latent heterogeneity for type 2 diabetes patients using longitudinal health markers in electronic health records.

Jitong Lou, Yuanjia Wang, Lang Li, Donglin Zeng,

Electronic health records (EHRs) from type 2 diabetes (T2D) patients consist of longitudinally and sparsely measured health markers at clinical encounters. Our goal is to use such data to learn latent patterns that can inform patient's health status related to T2D while accounting for challenges in retrospectively collected EHRs. To ... Read more >>
